 During a response to a large-scale influenza outbreak such as the current H1N1 outbreak, a community’s 9-1-1 and healthcare systems may experience a surge in calls or walk-in visits for care, advice, and information.
In fact, call volumes or walk-in visits could reach the point of overwhelming the 9-1-1 and healthcare systems, rendering them unable to respond to other emergencies in an efficient and effective manner. |

Human trials of Swine flu vaccine in Australia |
|
 Trials of a swine flu vaccine ordered by the federal government will begin today.
The Australian government's ordered 21 million doses of the vaccine being made by biotechnology company CSL.
The Royal Adelaide Hospital trials will take about seven months to complete but CSL says there'll be enough initial results for the government to plan distribution from October. 240 volunteers will take part in the trial with some to get a single dose and others a double dose. TO THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
On June 24, I signed into law the Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2009 (Public Law 111-32). Within the Act, the Congress appropriated $7.65 billion to the Department of Health and Human Services for the 2009-H1N1 influenza outbreak, including a $5.8 billion contingent appropriation for an influenza pandemic. |
